Republican Party of Armenia intends to put up a candidate for presidential race after its regular congress, Republican MP Galust Saakyan said on Wednesday.
YEREVAN, August 15. /ARKA/. Republican Party of Armenia intends to put up a candidate for presidential race after its regular congress, Republican MP Galust Saakyan said on Wednesday.

He told journalists that the party plans to make its final decision at this congress.

“Report on economic situation in Armenia will be heard and the government’s program unveiled at the congress”, the lawmaker said.

At the same time, Saakyan stressed that this candidate won’t be only Republican Party’s candidate, since he will be supported also by Prosperous Armenia party and some small but strong parties.

Commenting on the congress postponement, Saakyan said that this was due to the necessity of party’s approaches systematization.

Seven politicians – Armenian PM Serge Sargsyan, Orinats Yerkir party leader Arthur Baghdasaryan, National-Democratic Union leader Vazgen Manukyan, New Times party chairman Aram Karapetyan, Marxists’ leader David Hakobyan and People Party head Tigran Karapetyan - have already voiced their intention to run for presidency.
