YEREVAN, December 12. /ARKA/. At 10:30 a.m. on Monday morning, a group of Azerbaijanis in civilian clothes have again blocked the Stepanakert-Goris highway, (connecting Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia) "for environmental reasons," the Artsakh Information Center reported.

The command of Russian peacekeeping forces stationed in Artsakh has been duly informed of the incident, it said.

"Considering the aggressive and destructive behavior of the Azerbaijani side unacceptable, the authorized state bodies of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) are taking all possible measures to resolve the situation, keeping in touch with the command of the Russian peacekeeping forces. We urge citizens to stay calm and follow the official news, refraining from spreading unverified information," the Center said.

On December 3, a section of that road was blocked by a large group of Azerbaijanis for about four hours. Azerbaijani authorities claimed the road section was blocked by Azerbaijani environmentalists who wanted to investigate “illegal” mining activity in Nagorno-Karabakh and its “ecological consequences. It was reopened after the mediation of Russian peacekeepers. -0-
