A two-year deadline set for completion of school construction projects in Armenia
YEREVAN, November 4. /ARKA/. Schools will be built within two years in Armenia, minister of urban planning Narek Sargsyan said at the draft budget discussions in the parliament committees on Tuesday.

He said the ministry has prioritized completion of long-term school construction projects in 2015.

A two-year deadline is set for completion of construction of all schools, otherwise costs make no economic sense, the minister said. Before, there was already a need for repair by the time when long-lasting construction was over, he said.

Other 2015 priorities of the ministry are even regional development, completion of long-term projects and feasibility studies of the new projects.

The analysis of information shows 18 out of 54 construction projects are completed every year and the ministry intends to bring this level up to 60-65% so that construction of buildings is completed within 2-3, not 6-7 years, Sargsyan said.

The 2015 draft budget appropriates 11 billion drams for urban planning sector, including grants. Of this, about 5 billion 550 million will be spent on construction of schools and other educational facilities. About 2 billion drams will be allocated for compensations to residents of buildings in bad disrepair. The remaining funds will be spent on construction of sports and other facilities. –0--
