YEREVAN, May 24. /ARKA/. All the provincial governors in Armenia will be replaced, Armenian Territorial Administration and Development Minister Suren Papikyan said Thursday before the Cabinet’s regular meeting.
“Appointments will be made very soon, and the premier, using his constitutional powers, will introduce new governors to the government,” Papikyan said.
He finds nothing surprising in the governors’ reluctance to resign, but the will be left with no option but to come to terms wit the new reality.
On April 23, Serzh Sargsyan, who was appointed by the Armenian parliament as prime minister amid widespread disaffection for him, resigned under the pressure of mass protests against his premiership. On the same day, Armen Sarkissian, Armenian president accepted the government’s resignation.
On May 8, the National Assembly elected Nikol Pashinyan as prime minister by a majority of votes - 59 MPs voted for him and 42 voted against him. -0---
