Ambassador: India set to expand cooperation with Armenia in defense area

YEREVAN, December 5. /ARKA/. India is set to expand cooperation with Armenia in the defense area, Indian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Nilakshi Saha Sinha said today, speaking at Crossroads of Peace conference in Yerevan.
She said defense cooperation with any country implies not only technical cooperation but also capacity building.
The Eurasian Times wrote in early November, citing its sources that after Armenia acquired Pinaka MLRS and missiles from India, it started buying UAV countermeasures systems from its South Asian partner.
According to anonymous sources familiar with the situation, Armenia has contracted for the Zen Anti-Drone System (ZADS) developed in India.
The Peace Crossroads initiated by Armenia is a good project, she said, expressing hope that it would finally succeed in bringing peace to the region.
"Cooperation plays a key role in boosting economic development and prosperity. And India supports all initiatives to increase engagement. We believe that if ties between neighbors are strengthened, if they are successful, they are bound to bring relief to people and consequently economic development and well-being. So the Crossroads of Peace project can only be welcomed. There is no alternative to peace," the diplomat emphasized.
About the Crossroads of Peace project
The project was first unveiled in October 2023 at the Silk Road Forum in Tbilisi, by Armenian PM Pashinyan. It calls for establishing regional communications, open borders, development of economic, political and cultural ties, which are an important component of the peace agenda.
A special unit has already been created within Armenia's National Security Service, which will be in charge of ensuring the security of the passage of goods, vehicles, and people along roads passing through Armenia. --0--
