YEREVAN, July 25. /ARKA/. Armenia welcomes cooperation of the EAEU member states within the framework of the climate agenda. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at an international environmental conference in the Altai Territory of the Russian Federation.

“Eurasian low-carbon development programs are also important. Attaching great importance to the preservation of biodiversity, Armenia is implementing programs to restore the population of wild animals. The program for restoring the population of the Caucasian leopard, implemented since 2002 jointly with the World Wildlife Fund, is bearing tangible results,” Pashinyan noted.

According to him, the permanent residence of this species of animals in the territory of Armenia and the breeding of cubs have already been recorded, which indicates the achievement of sustainability of the habitat and food supply of the Caucasian leopard.

"A program to restore the Caucasian red deer population in the Dilijan Reserve is also being implemented jointly with the Fund," Pashinyan said.

He stated that Armenia also supports the agenda of mountain countries within the UN.

"We are actively participating in the work of the Group of Friends of Mountain Countries within the UN, which was initiated by Kyrgyzstan. We have also joined the initiative of the Kyrgyz side called the Mountain Partnership Group within the framework of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Climate Change," Pashinyan emphasized, expressing hope that the group will become an active participant in the negotiation processes within the framework of the climate conference, for which purpose they are ready to actively contribute to the formation of the necessary agenda within the group.

Pashinyan recalled that the 17th Conference of the Parties - COP17 on Biological Diversity will be held in Armenia in October 2026.

"We count on the participation of high-ranking delegations from your countries, as well as representatives, academic and expert circles in the work of COP17. As the chair and host, Armenia will make every effort to ensure a productive dialogue, to bring the positions of the parties closer together and to make balanced and meaningful decisions that take into account the interests and priorities of all parties,” Pashinyan noted.

He expressed confidence that together it is possible to make a significant contribution to global efforts to preserve biodiversity and rational use of the natural environment in the spirit of shared responsibility for the planet.
