YEREVAN, June 3. / ARKA /. Armenia and Serbia will open diplomatic missions in Yerevan and Belgrade, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said today at a joint press conference in Yerevan with his Serbian counterpart Ivica Dacic, who is also the OSCE Chairman-in-Office.
"We have discussed further steps to deepen and expand our bilateral cooperation. We are satisfied with the practical steps made by both sides to fulfill the agreements reached. We are working on the opening of diplomatic missions in Yerevan and Belgrade, as well as on the simplification of the visa regime," Nalbandian said.
Nalbandian said the sides discussed also a string of issues on strengthening of cultural, economic and parliamentary relations.
"We have also signed a memorandum on cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries, which implies periodic political consultations", said Nalbandian.
He said Armenians and Serbs are friendly peoples, who have helped one another in difficult periods of history.
"We particularly appreciate the visit of the President of Serbia Tomislov Nikolic to Armenia to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide," said Nalbandian.
In turn, Dacic said that Serbia wants to develop historical relations with Armenia in all directions.
"We have to strengthen the work in all directions, including the economic sphere, since, unfortunately, we have a small trade turnover. We have decided to sign an agreement on elimination of visa regime and should think about other agreements, including an agreement on free trade,’ he said. -0-
