Armenia can not sign association agreement with EU after choosing to join EEU, Euronest parliamentary assembly co-chairs says
YEREVAN, March 18. / ARKA /. Armenia can not sign an Association Agreement with the European Union after choosing to join  the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), Boris Tarasyuk (Ukraine), the co-chair of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, told a news conference today in Yerevan.

"Armenia has chosen the EEU. It is impossible to be in the EEU and to sign a new Association Agreement with the EU," said Tarasyuk.

Earlier Armenian deputy foreign minister Shavarsh Kocharyan said Armenia and the European Union plan to sign a cooperation agreement during the Eastern Partnership’s Riga Summit on May 21-22..
Kocharyan said the new accord with the EU would contain major provisions of the Association Agreement not contradicting Armenia’s membership in the EEU.

Another co-chair of Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, Heidi Hautala, said Armenia and EU were negotiating a new  agreement that could incorporate some political elements of the abandoned Association Agreement .

"We understand why Armenia has chosen the Eurasian integration",  she added.

The fourth ordinary session of the Euronest PA was held in Yerevan on 17-18 March. The agenda included four main reports by the standing committees of the National Assembly of Armenia on cooperation issues in 2014-2020 under the European Neighborhood and Eastern Partnership programs.-0-
