Armenia demands ECHR oblige Azerbaijan to set free Nagorno-Karabakh leaders
YEREVAN, October 6. /ARKA/ Armenia demanded that the European Court of Human Right (ECHR) set free former leaders of Nagorno-Karabakh, who were detained and later arrested by Azerbaijani authorities when trying to leave the region and move to Armenia.
"On October 4, Armenia's representative on international legal issues referring the Court's 39th rule, applied to the ECHR with a demand to guarantee the rights of all representatives of the former and current leadership of Nagorno-Karabakh, according to the 2nd and 3rd articles of the European Convention, and to oblige Azerbaijan to release them immediately," Armenia's representative on international legal issues said in a Facebook statement.
Based on the videos circulated on social networks, the Armenian representative asked the Court to oblige Azerbaijan to provide full information on the prisoners of war and civilians under its control.
"In connection with the earlier application submitted to the ECHR by the Armenian side, Azerbaijan has provided the Court with information on the condition of Ruben Vardanyan (former state minister of Nagorno-Karabakh), which was handed over to the close relatives of the latter," Armenia's representative on international legal issues said in a statement.
Former state minister Ruben Vardanyan, ex-presidents Bako Sahakyan and Arkady Ghukasyan, ex-speaker of the parliament David Ishkhanyan, ex-foreign minister David Babayan, former deputy commander of the Defense Army David Manukyan, former president Arayk Harutyunyan and commander of the Defense Army Levon Mnatsakanyan. were arrested in Azerbaijan -0-
