YEREVAN, November 24. /ARKA/. Armenia is ranked 134th among 146 countries in the sixth Basel Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Index, developed by the Basel Institute on Governance.
The Basel AML Index measures the risk of money laundering and terrorist financing of countries based on publicly available sources. A total of 14 indicators that deal with AML/CFT regulations, corruption, financial standards, political disclosure and rule of law are aggregated into one overall risk score. By combining these various data sources, the overall risk score represents a holistic assessment addressing structural as well as functional elements in the AML/CFT framework.
The 2017 Basel AML Index covers 146 countries. Three countries were removed from the 2016 edition of the Basel AML Index: Ethiopia, Guinea, and Seychelles. They were excluded from this year’s rating due to insufficient data.
The lowest score means the lowest risk. Armenia has scored 4.44 points, down from 4.63 points in the previous index when it was 128th among 149 surveyed countries. Armenia is ahead of Azerbaijan, which has 4.78 points (119th place), Georgia - 5.37 points (97th place), Russia - 6.22 points (64th place), Turkey - 6.65 points (43rd place) and Iran - 8.6 points (1st place). The leaders of this index are Finland - 3.08 points (146th place), Lithuania - 3.67 points (145th) and Estonia - 3.83 points (144th place).
At the bottom, except for Iran, are also Afghanistan - 8.38 points (2nd place) and Guinea-Bissau - 8.35 points (3rd place). -0-
