Armenia may become member of EEU on January 2 next year, Russian official says

Armenia may become a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) on January 2, 2015, Anna Sysoeva, a senior official of the Russian ministry of economic development, said today at a meeting of the Russian Senate’s committee on international affairs, RIA Novosti reported.

Armenia may become a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) on January 2, 2015, Anna Sysoeva, a senior official of the Russian ministry of economic development, said today at a meeting of the Russian Senate’s committee on international affairs, RIA Novosti reported.
She said the EEU treaty ratified already by Russia will be ratified by Kazakhstan on October 2 and by Belarus on October 7.
"We expect that on October 10, when the presidents of the three countries meet in Minsk, they will announce in a statement that all the three countries are ready for the treaty’s entry into force on January 1, 2015,” she added.
Speaking on the possibility of expanding the EEU Sysoeva said that Kyrgyzstan was currently implementing its roadmap, while Armenia has already completed it. She said if everything goes as scheduled Armenia will sign the membership agreement on October 10, which will mean that it becomes a member of the union on January 2, 2015.
The Kyrgyz government officially requested accession to the Customs Union that is to be replaced by the EEU in the spring of 2011. Armenia announced its intention on September 3, 2013.
The EEU treaty was signed by Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan on May 29. It enters into force on 1 January 2015. The Russian State Duma (lower chamber of parliament) ratified the treaty on 26th of September. -0-
