Armenia may become more influential ally to Russia in region
YEREVAN, November 30. /ARKA/. Nikolai Zlobin, the president of the Center on Global Interests, thinks that Armenia may become a more influential ally to Russia in the region amid the current escalation of Russia-Turkey tension.

He is quoted by Novosti-Armenia as saying that it is very important for Armenia to line up its political priorities.

“Finding it very important to restore justice and recognize the genocide fact, I still think the Armenian elite shouldn’t limit the vision of its foreign policy goals,” Zlobin said in an Interview with Novosti Armenia. “I think Armenia’s prosperity and increase of its political influence is far more important in these circumstances than restoration of historical justice, even if it sounds cynically, since politics focuses the future.”

In his words, now Russia will be interested in expanding its presence in Armenia.

“But is Armenia’s elite ready for that? Russia is thought to be building up its military presence in CIS countries, Caucasus and the Middle East. It is necessary to start negotiating with Russia over the matter,” Zlobin said in his interview. ---0----
