Armenia ready to develop ties with European Union -president

President Serzh Sargsyan told today the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Herbert Salber about Armenia’s efforts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict through peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group, saying also that the Armenian side is ready to continue constructive efforts and cooperation to achieve peace and security across the region.
YEREVAN, July 6. /ARKA/. President Serzh Sargsyan told today the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Herbert Salber about Armenia’s efforts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict through peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group, saying also that the Armenian side is ready to continue constructive efforts and cooperation to achieve peace and security across the region.
Sargsyan’s press office said the two men spoke also about the cooperation between Armenia and the EU and exchanged views on the latest developments in the Karabakh peace process after the meetings of Armenian and Azerbaijani in Vienna and St. Petersburg.
Sargsyan’s was quoted as saying that Armenia highly appreciates the commitment of the EU and its efforts to create a favorable climate for a comprehensive settlement of the Karabakh conflict and to ensure long-lasting peace and stability in the region.
Sargsyan and Salber concurred that bilateral relations between Armenia and the EU are developing dynamically driven by political will and commitment on both sides.
The two sides expressed hope that negotiations on a new framework agreement between Armenia and the EU will be completed successfully in the coming months.
During the May 16 meeting in Vienna, Austria, the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to work out safeguards against ceasefire violations around Nagorno-Karabakh and resume their search for a compromise peace deal to end the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
After the June 20 meeting in St. Petersburg, the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to increase the number of international observers in the Karabakh conflict zone and noted the achievement of mutual understanding on a number of issues that will create conditions for progress in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement process. -0-
