Armenia's armed forces are able to solve problems on the contact line between Karabakh and Azerbaijan independently, without asking help from the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan told journalists on Tuesday.
YEREVAN, January 27. /ARKA/. Armenia's armed forces are able to solve problems on the contact line between Karabakh and Azerbaijan independently, without asking help from the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan told journalists on Tuesday.
Tension on the contact line and on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border escalated earlier this month, and since then reports about violation of the ceasefire regime by the Azerbaijani side have been released almost every day.
In his words, the Armenian army is constantly developing and strengthening. «I don't think that the latest tension on the Karabakh conflict zone would prompt us to appeal to the Collective Security Treaty Organization,» he said.
«What for the Armenian army then if it can't solve problems in a slightest escalation? »
He said quantitative superiority of gives no advantages to the opposite side, since «we outdo the enemy a great deal by our quality and our fighting spirit and we are able to fulfill our objectives».
Ohanyan said that necessary strategic measures are being taken in Armenia, including exercises, in which not only armed forces, but also all the institutions responsible for the country's are involved.
The minister said the decision-making mechanism is following: National Security Council after scrutinizing things can recommend the Armenian leadership to appeal or not to appeal to the Collective Security Treaty Organization in accordance with legal norms. --0----
