Armenia’s deputy defense minister presents situation on border to EU officials

Armenia's first deputy defense minister  David Tonoyan met on Monday with the acting head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Dirk Lorenz and  coordinator of political affairs Andrea Khalupova, to tell them about the situation on the border with Azerbaijan and the strategic command and staff exercises Shat-2015.

YEREVAN, September 7. / ARKA /. Armenia's first deputy defense minister  David Tonoyan met on Monday with the acting head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Dirk Lorenz and  coordinator of political affairs Andrea Khalupova, to tell them about the situation on the border with Azerbaijan and the strategic command and staff exercises Shat-2015.

"Tonoyan informed the EU officials about the September 3-6 strategic command and staff exercises Shant-2015 and its objectives. He also presented the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border and Karabakh-Azerbaijani line of contact and the details of the latest shootout incidents,' the ministry said in a statement.

Tonoyan expressed concern about the frequented cases of ceasefire violation by Azerbaijan and the use of large-caliber weapons.

Lorenz was said to have confirmed EU's concerns over the incidents and its calls for restraint on the ground, the strict observance of the ceasefire and continued efforts for the soonest peaceful and comprehensive settlement of the conflict within the OSCE Minsk Group.

Azerbaijani troops have been shelling villages of Tavush region of Armenia for days already along with breaches of ceasefire regime on the contact line with the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, which have resulted in several deaths and injured people. -0-
