YEREVAN, January 29. / ARKA /. Armenia's membership in the Russia-led Customs Union will definitely strengthen Yerevan’s position in the region and help boost a deeper relationship with neighboring countries, according to Andrey Sorokin, director of Russian publishing group Odnako.

He says as a member of the Customs Union of Russia Kazakhstan and Belarus, Armenia will be better placed to enhance its relations especially with neighboring Iran and step up implementation of joint projects.

"Backed by the power of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, Armenia will become integrated into their common economic projects, and as such to build its relations with Iran," he said Wednesday during a lecture at the School of Journalistic Excellence in Yerevan.

The Russian expert also argued that the inclusion of relatively small Armenia into the Customs Union is “the only chance for it to be economically independent."  -0-
