YEREVAN, May 30. /ARKA/.  Armenia’s ombudsman Karen Andreasyan asked an additional of 65 million drams from the parliament for his office operations.

The human rights defender said the money will be spent on “national preventive mechanism” program to be implemented under the law.

“Otherwise I will have to close down six regional ombudsman offices and the prompt response service”, Andreasyan said at 2012 budget performance discussions in the parliament.

The defender said these offices were initiated himself, but they carry out a considerable amount of work.

In December 2012, the ombudsman applied to the parliament for additional 10 million drams, but was turned down.

Under the draft 2013 budget, Armenia earmarked 176.6 million drams for its ombudsman’s office operations this year. ($1=416.47drams). -0-
