Armenia’s parliament passes resolution on genocide of Greeks and Assyrians in Ottoman Turkey

Armenia’s National Assembly voted unanimously on Tuesday in favor of a resolution recognizing and condemning the genocide of Greeks and Assyrians in Ottoman Turkey.
YEREVAN, March 24. /ARKA/. Armenia’s National Assembly voted unanimously on Tuesday in favor of a resolution recognizing and condemning the genocide of Greeks and Assyrians in Ottoman Turkey.
The discussion on the resolution started in the parliament on Monday March 23. The resolution was drafted jointly by all six factions of the parliament.
According to various estimates, from 350,000 to 1.2 million Greeks were slaughtered in the Ottoman Empire and Turkey in the beginning of the XX century and in 1915-1923 in particular. May 19 is the day of commemoration of the genocide against Pontian Greeks from Asia Minor.
The genocide of Assyrians was perpetrated by Ottoman Empire during the World War I. About 800,000 Assyrians were slaughtered. –0--
