Armenia’s Sargsyan calls to refrain from provocative initiatives in PACE framework
YEREVAN, April 15. /ARKA/. Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan urged to refrain from provocative initiatives in the framework of the PACE at his meeting with the President of the PACE, Anne Brasseur, in Yerevan on Tuesday.

In October 2014, initiated by Azerbaijan the PACE adopted a resolution on preparing a report entitled “Escalation of violence in Nagorno-Karabakh and other occupied territories of Azerbaijan”.

Earlier, Armenia’s minister of foreign affairs Edward Nalbandyan said the efforts of PACE rapporteur from Great Britain Robert Walter could damage the negotiation process.

Commenting on Walter’s visit to Azerbaijan, the foreign minister said that “one should refrain from steps which could undermine the negotiation process in general.” During the meeting, president Sargsyan presented the current status of the peace process under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group to Brasseur, as well as the existing problems.

Sargsyan stressed the importance of initiatives aiming at building trust between the sides to the conflict.

The president urged to refrain, in the framework of the PACE, from initiatives, statements and resolutions containing hostility and provocative accusations, according to the press office.

Sargsyan stressed the importance of cooperation with the Council of Europe and said Armenia, as a CE member, has been actively involved in CE activities at various levels.

The head of the state said that the CE plays a special and important role in pan-European architecture, and the standards for human rights, democracy and law supremacy developed by the CE have widely extended beyond Europe.

The president praised the PACE’s support in implementation of democratic reforms in the country. –0--
