YEREVAN, December 20. /ARKA/. Armenia has received the green light from the European Union for embarking on negotiation to join the EU common air space, Sergey Avetisyan, head of the General Department of Civil Aviation of Armenia, told journalists on Tuesday.

“This entitles us to start negotiating in the beginning of 2017, and an agreement will give us a right to liberalize flights with all EU countries at once,” he said.

Avetisyan found it difficult to indicate any date for sealing the agreement, but expressed hope that this will happen quite soon.

Dismissing fears that accession of Armenia in the EU common air space would contradict the country’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, he said that the Eurasian Economic Union, too, seeks liberalization of the area.

If Armenia joins the EU common air space it will enjoy a more liberal regime with 208 countries.

Of the Eastern Partnership countries, Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine have already joined the space. -0---
