Armenian and Russian law-enforcement authorities will make complete investigation of Gyumri shooting- ambassador

YEREVAN, January 15. / ARKA /. In a statement today Russian ambassador to Armenia Ivan Volynkin said Armenian and Russian  law-enforcement authorities will make  a comprehensive investigation of the Gyumri killings.

According to Armenian police, private Valery Permyakov  from the Russian military base  in Gyumri admitted to murdering the six members of the family- a couple, their son and daughter-in-law, a 2-year-old granddaughter, and an unmarried daughter. They all were found shot dead in their house on January 12. 

The couple's six-month-old grandson was hospitalized in a grave condition. The victims were all shot with an AK-47.  Valery Permyakov was detained on January 13, shortly after midnight, while trying to cross the border into Turkey dressed in civilian clothing.

"I appeal to all citizens of the Republic of Armenia. Today members of the Avetisyan family were buried. Once again I would like to express my condolences to the relatives of the innocent victims of this horrible crime. Such atrocities have no excuses and no nationality. All embassy staff shares the pain of this loss with the brotherly people of Armenia and mourns with them," said  his statement.

"I am confident that the criminal will be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Armenian and Russian  authorities are investigating this case together. It will be objective and comprehensive. I do not doubt it,” said the ambassador.

According to him, in the long history of Russian-Armenian friendship there were uneasy pages, ‘but we always overcame difficulties by joint efforts and by supporting each other. I believe that we will overcome this one as well,” said Volynkin. -0
