YEREVAN, January 20. /ARKA/. An Armenian delegation headed by Yury Khachaturov, chief of Armenia’s armed forces, will fly Tuesday to Brussels to attend a meeting of army chiefs of countries that participate in NATO mission in Afghanistan, the Armenian defense ministry’s press office reports. The meeting will be held on Wednesday.
The NATO mission, called Resolute Support, was launched in Afghanistan on January 1, 2015 after the United States and their allies completed the military component of their operation in the country.
Some 28 NATO countries and 14 partner countries will be involved in this mission. About 12,000 NATO troops will be deployed here instead of 139,000 previously, and they will be able only to defend themselves, not to take part in Afghan defense forces’ military operations, since this is not a military mission.
On January 1, a unit of 65 Armenian peacekeepers traveled to Germany to attend two-week classes for taking part in this NATO mission in Afghanistan. Armenia has servicemen also in NATO missions in Kosovo and Lebanon. ---0-----
