YEREVAN, October 3. /ARKA/. Armenia suggested that Armenian and Azerbaijani commissions set up to deal with delimitation and demarcation of their border hold their next meeting in October, Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesman Vahan Hunanyan told Novosti-Armenia news agency.

Under an earlier schedule, they had to meet in November. The issue is to be considered by deputy ministers of both countries who co-chair their respective commissions.

Earlier Russian media reports said that taking into account the tension on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov who had a meeting with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan in Geneva on Octrober 2, proposed to hold the next meeting of the bilateral delimitation commission in October this year, not in November, as it was agreed earlier.

Armenian Foreign Ministry said earlier today that Mirzoyan and Bayramov exchanged views on the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, ensuring the rights and security guarantees for the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh, including through the establishment of a discussion mechanism between Stepanakert.

Mirzoyan was said to reiterate Armenia's demand that Azerbaijani troops withdraw from the sovereign territory of Armenia and all Armenian POWs be released immediately.

The importance of introducing international mechanisms for border situation control was also highlighted, the ministry said.

The commissions were established on May 23 this year by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Their first meeting was held on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border on May 24. The second was held in Moscow in summer.

Russian Foreign Ministry representative Maria Zakharova said earlier that Moscow was ready to provide consultative assistance to the Armenian-Azerbaijani border delimitation commission.

"We have repeatedly said that Russia is ready to provide consultative assistance to the bilateral commission on the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. This is fixed in the statement the leaders of the three countries issued after a meeting in Sochi on November 26, 2021," Zakharova said.

She said Russia has unique expertise in delimitation and settlement of border disputes in the post-Soviet space.

"We have the necessary cartographic materials at our disposal, and we will be happy to share our experience with Azerbaijani and Armenian friends," Zakharova said.-0-
