The Armenian Defense Ministry said today that it is checking Azerbaijani media reports that Armenian border guards opened fire at the Kapan-Zangelan section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border on February 12.

YEREVAN, February 12. /ARKA/. The Armenian Defense Ministry said today that it is checking Azerbaijani media reports that Armenian border guards opened fire at the Kapan-Zangelan section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border on February 12.

The ministry recalled that written orders of superior commanders clearly define cases when a serviceman, having assessed the situation, can and/or is obliged to make a decision to open fire.

"According to preliminary information, there was no such situation in the specified area on February 12. If this circumstance is confirmed, those responsible for violating the order will be held accountable," the ministry said. -0-
