YEREVAN, September 1. /ARKA/. Artsvik Minasyan, Armenian economy minister, told journalists on Thursday about methods of struggle against monopolies.
“The Armenian law doesn’t suggest full-scale solutions for an effective combat against monopolies, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t take some important steps, the first of which is mitigation of restrictions for imports and even their lifting in some cases,” he said.
The second step, he said, is regulation of relations between wholesale and retail trade entities.
“Wholesale importers and producers themselves are engaged in retail sales, ousting other, smaller entities,” Minasyan said.
As the third step to be taken, he pointed out is consistent control over the extent of market dominance by some companies.
In his words, sometimes entities, ignoring the law, seize positions at the market, but there are no effective legislative levers for preventing such phenomena, particularly predatory pricing.
“The economy ministry has set up a group working in this direction also with other agencies, and I am convinced that legislative changes will be carried out before the end of the next year,” he said. --0---
