YEREVAN, November 3. /ARKA/. Artsvik Minasyan, Armenian nature protection minister, sees no grounds for concern over development of Amulsar gold field in Vayots Dzor.

Construction here was launched in August 2016 causing some nongovernmental organizations and independent experts’ outcry.

Responding to them, he told journalists on Wednesday that this poses absolutely no threat to environment.

Minasyan said that the program of Amulsar gold field development is being widely discussed in Armenia adding that it will attract $400 million.

The environment minister called on everybody to refrain from emotional statements if there is no any alternative program.

“The company has proposed to discuss all the problems and is keeping its pledge,” he said. “The scrutiny launched by the nature protection ministry has found no irregularities.”

This program is one of the biggest investment projects in Armenia. The construction that is expected to last from 2016 to 2018 will cost $370 million. Some 1,300 people will be involved in the stage of active construction and the subsidiary of Lydian International - Lydian Armenia, a British company that implements this program, will ensure 700 jobs for the decade of the gold field development.

Amulsar gold field is the second largest gold deposit in Armenia. It sits 13 kilometers from Jermuk, a popular resort. The deposit contains 31 million tons of ore and 40 tons of pure gold. --0---
