YEREVAN, February 23. /ARKA/. Armenian Foreign Ministry accused Azerbaijan of abusing international law enforcement procedures after it announced that two former Armenian presidents Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan, as well as Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) President Arayik Harutyunyan are wanted by its law-enforcement authorities.

“Recently  it was reported that the Azerbaijani authorities have initiated criminal prosecution and issued an international arrest warrant against the President of Artsakh Arayik Harutyunyan, the former Presidents of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and Robert Kocharyan,” the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

‘We strongly condemn the criminal prosecutions of Azerbaijan based on false and Armenophobic grounds, as well as such abuse of the procedures of international law enforcement. Instead of undertaking efforts towards detecting the persons involved in the extrajudicial killings of civilians in Artsakh and in the forcible disappearances of Armenian prisoners of war, or revealing criminal networks of transfers of terrorist fighters to the region, Azerbaijan pursues its years long policy of Armenophobia with new momentum, attempting to provoke further escalations in Nagorno-Karabakh and on the Armenia-Azerbaijan bordering areas. We urge Azerbaijan to undertake steps towards finding constructive solutions, protecting the rights and welfare of all the peoples of the region.

At the same time, we reaffirm the commitment of the Republic of Armenia to undertake efforts for the establishment of peaceful coexistence and mutual tolerance in the region,’ the statement reads.

Serzh Sargsyan's office called the accusations against former presidents of Armenia ‘absurd and cynical’, reminding that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev "has for many years specialized in genocide policy and has turned Armenophobia into a state policy in his country".

Robert Kocharyan's office said they were not surprised. "The Armenian authorities, who are begging for peace from Azerbaijan at the cost of national dignity are getting help from their 'educated and constructive' friends," the office said in a statement.

Earlier it became known that Azerbaijani law enforcers want to "arrest" Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan for ordering to hit Azerbaijan’s second-largest city of Gyanja by missiles in 20200 autumn war.-0-
