Armenia’s foreign ministry is working over the signing of the political component of the EU Association agreement, political analyst Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan said.
YEREVAN, March 2. /ARKA/. Armenia’s foreign ministry is working over the signing of the political component of the EU Association agreement, political analyst Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan said.
Speaking on the air on Sputnik-Armenia radio, the expert said Armenia’s accession to the EEU has not affected the relationship with the European Union.
The political component is important to both sides in terms of introduction of political tools and the system of values, Melik-Shahnazaryan said. This process is developing quite successfully, the expert said.
According to the expert, both the EEU and the EU pursue their political and economic interests in the South Caucasus and are ready, in this respect, to cooperate with all the countries in the region. They are often willing to even enhance the level of cooperation substantially, he said.
Azerbaijan’s energy resources are of interest to the EU and open up cooperation opportunities bearing in mind the possible transit through Armenia, according to Melik-Shahnazaryan. Without stability and transit opportunities Azerbaijani oil is of no interest, as the EU is seeking transit ways bypassing Russia, the expert said. But together with Kazakhstan’s and Turkmenistan’s resources, and the possibility of transit through Armenia, the regional potential grows considerable, he said.
The political analyst believes Armenia is the main security and stability guarantee in the South Caucasus, and no energy project will be implemented without these guarantees.
As to the EEU, Armenia’s role is growing as Yerevan, being a foothold in the south, enables Russia being more ambitious in its relations with Iran, Turkey and the Near East, the expert said. –0--
