Armenian former presidents to have pension equal to 70% of salary of president in office

The National Assembly of Armenia passed today at the second, final reading amendments to the law on remuneration, servicing and ensuring security of the president of the Republic of Armenia – 87 MPs voted for the bill, one voted against it and 12 abstained.
YEREVAN, March 4. /ARKA/. The National Assembly of Armenia passed today at the second, final reading amendments to the law on remuneration, servicing and ensuring security of the president of the Republic of Armenia – 87 MPs voted for the bill, one voted against it and 12 abstained. In accordance with the amended law, former presidents will have a pension equal to 70% of the salary of the president in office, Novosti-Armenia reports.
It means now the pension of former presidents is about AMD 924,000 drams. Under the amended law, if the retired president holds any position with a salary exceeding 70% of the current president's salary, then payment of his pension is ceased, but if he earns less than 70% of the salary of the president in office, then only difference is paid.
Payment of the pension resumes when the ex-president stops receiving income from any other position.
Besides, now personal usage office equipment may come into former presidents' possession – before that, former presidents had a right to use personal office equipment before turning 70, while now they enjoy this right for life.
The first Armenian president was Levon Ter-Petrosyan (1991-1998), the second president, Robert Kocharyan, ran the country between 1998 and 2008.
Serzh Sargsyan took office in 2008 and was elected for the second term in 2013.
Now of the three presidents only Levon Ter-Petrosyan tuned 70. ($1 – AMD 479.05). ---0-----
