YEREVAN, June 9. /ARKA/. Armenian prime minister Hovik Abrahamyan said June 8 the government is going to eliminate several high-ranking positions, including those of deputy ministers.
Speaking at a parliamentary Q&A session he said one deputy minister was dismissed already (he meant Sergey Avetisyan, deputy economy minister, who replaced Artem Movsesyan as head of the Main Civil Aviation Department) and 3-4 more deputy ministers will be dismissed on June 9.
"Although many do not believe that the government is going to streamline its spending, our steps in this direction will be firm and consistent. One should not expect that all the issues will be resolved quickly- it requires time and resources,' Abrahamyan said.
Abrahamyan downplayed accusations that the ruling Republican Party of Armenia is spending budget money to finance its PR.
"All the spending is approved by the parliament and the changes in spending items are also approved by deputies I do not remember a case when civil society organizations, including those that support the Republican Party of Armenia, were provided with funds from the reserve fund of the government," Abrahamyan concluded. -0-
