Armenian Justice Minister: extensive work underway to protect the rights of Armenians in Azerbaijani captivity
In December, more than 30 Armenian captives returned to their homeland. Armenia, in turn, handed over two convicts to Azerbaijan.
‘A lot of diplomatic work is being carried out through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and embassies," Minasyan said at a press conference. According to the minister, the purpose of this work is to inform the international community about what really happened and who the captives are.
Also, he said, representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross are visiting the captives to ensure communication between them and their relatives.
"At the same time, the Armenian government's representative on international legal issues is actively working in international courts to properly protect the rights of the Armenian captives," Minasyan emphasized.
According to Armenia's Investigative Committee, 141 servicemen and civilians have been returned from Azerbaijani captivity. Azerbaijan confirms currently the captivity of 23 Armenians, 17 of whom are persons captured as a result of the latest aggression on Nagorno-Karabakh last September. Among them are Nagorno-Karabakh officials as well as civilians and military personnel. --0--
