Armenian law-enforcement authorities have detained today four members of a public organization called Constituent Parliament for planning mass public unrest on April 24, the day when Armenians around the world will be marking the centenary of the Armenian genocide.
YEREVAN, April 7. / ARKA /. Armenian law-enforcement authorities have detained today four members of a public organization called Constituent Parliament for planning mass public unrest on April 24, the day when Armenians around the world will be marking the centenary of the Armenian genocide.
The Investigative Committee of Armenia said in a statement that the detained men are Varuzhan Avetisyan, Pavel Manukyan, Gevorg Safaryan and Zhirayr Sefilyan.
The organization is led by Zhirayr Sefilyan, a Nagorno-Karabakh war veteran. Their detention was preceded by a search in the apartments of some members of the Constituent Parliament.
The Investigative Committee said together with the National Security Service it has foiled an attempt of organizing mass unrest on April 24.
According to the statement, the law enforcement officials revealed that the group planned to press for a civil disobedience campaign during public events on April 24 and use force against authorities in case of need.
The statement said using public events commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide in one's own narrow interests not only contradicts moral standards, but also contains signs of preparations of a crime.
In this regard, the Investigative Committee of Armenia has opened a criminal case on the grounds of Article 35-225 (preparation for organizing public unrest).
The law-enforcement authorities are continuing the investigation to reveal all the circumstances of the case, the statement said.-0-
