The Armenian parliament on Thursday adopted a package of amendments to the Law "On Parties" and a number of related laws, providing for stricter control over financial activities of parties.

YEREVAN, February 9. /ARKA/. The Armenian parliament on Thursday adopted a package of amendments to the Law "On Parties" and a number of related laws, providing for stricter control over financial activities of parties.

"The bill is designed to ensure transparency and financial accountability of parties," justice minister Hrayr Tovmasyan said when introducing the bill.

According to him, the changes stipulate that that the property of a political party must  be formed only from membership fees and donations. The changes also say that the maximum aggregate amount of annual donations can not exceed 1 billion drams," ($1 -388.37 drams).-0-
