The Armenian parliament has ratified today the extension of the agreement with the United States of America on countering the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, signed on July 24, 2000.
YEREVAN, November 17. /ARKA/. The Armenian parliament has ratified today the extension of the agreement with the United States of America on countering the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, signed on July 24, 2000.
According to Deputy Defense Minister Ara Nazaryan, the main purpose of the document is the continuation of cooperation in the defense sector, which is being extended for seven years.
He said the agreement had already been prolonged in 2009 and expires on the 25th of November, 2016.
"As part of the agreement the United States undertakes to provide Armenia with equipment, material assistance and technology to prevent the spread of weapons of mass destruction," - Nazaryan said.
The agreement provides, inter alia, that the parties will prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons, directly related materials, technology and knowledge, as well as chemical and biological weapons. -0
