YEREVAN, May 19. /ARKA/. Hovik Abrahamyan, Armenia’s prime minister, assured members of the National Assembly that there was no monopoly at Armenia's petrol and diesel market.

The thing is that according to the statement of representatives of Rus-Arm Oil company, its vehicles with 46 tons of diesel stood from May 1 at Bagratashen border checkpoint because customs officers barred them from importing the fuel into Armenia demanding some laboratory examination.

After media resources revealed this illegality Hovik Abrahamyan ordered not to trouble this importer, and the matter was settled.

He said he would release details to public later.

There are no legislative restrictions for fuel imports in the country, he said, and monopolies appear here 'as a result of economic activity'.

In his words, the regulator controls things properly and take necessary measures.

Responding to the media revelation and an MP's query, the premier had to declare that there is no monopoly in liquid fuel import and that anybody who wants can do this business.

He said that the only requirement is compliance with the technical regulations set by the Eurasian Economic Union.

Asked why consumer prices in Armenia far higher than in neighboring Georgia, he put the blame on shipment expenses.

“It is necessary to understand that transportation from Poti to Yerevan very often is more expensive than import frоm Europe, and this impacts prices – this applies not only to fuel imports,” he said. --0---
