YEREVAN, January 13. /ARKA/. Karen Karapetyan, Armenian prime minister, speaking Friday at a news conference, didn’t rule out that he might not be included in the list of the Republican Party of Armenia in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
He found it difficult to answer this question. He said that if the fact that he lived outside Armenia in recent years makes him not eligible for being included in the list, then he will be left out of the list.
Earlier, Armen Ashotyan, deputy chairman of the ruling party, said that if Karapetyan is left aside in the parliamentary elections, he still will be nominated by the party to the prime-ministerial seat after the elections.
Under the Armenian Constitution, any person above 25 who is only Armenian citizen and who lived in Armenia in the last four years and who can speak Armenian may become member of the country’s National Assembly.
Karen Karapetyan worked at Russia’s Gazprom on high positions from 2011 and 2016. Therefore, it can be presumed that he lived outside Armenia in the last five years. --0---
