Armenian president to be in Moscow on Day of Victory

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said Tuesday he will fly to Moscow to attend events dedicated to victory in the World War II.
“I will be there for sure… This is our victory, the victory of Armenian people as well, and therefore, I, as representative of Armenian people, will take part in main events.” he said in program ‘Pozner’ that is available on pozneronline.ru.

YEREVAN, April 28. /ARKA/. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said Tuesday he will fly to Moscow to attend events dedicated to victory in the World War II.
“I will be there for sure… This is our victory, the victory of Armenian people as well, and therefore, I, as representative of Armenian people, will take part in main events.” he said in program ‘Pozner’ that is available on pozneronline.ru.
The president stressed that Armenians and the Soviet Army have contributed a great deal in achievement of this victory.
“Some 1.8 million people lived then in the Soviet Armenia and 900,000 Armenians lived outside of the country – the total number is 2.7 million, 600,000 fought in this war, and 314,000 of them didn’t return home.
This is every ninth Armenian,” Sargsyan said adding that Armenians took this war as their own war.
“We have also another threat – everyone knows that Turkish army was ready to break in the Soviet Armenia, in the event of the Soviet Union’s failure, and therefore every Armenian, fighting in Belarus, Ukraine and Russia thought he was fighting for Armenia. We gave five marshals and 117 Soviet Union Heroes, and we are proud of this.”
The Armenian president also said that no changes had been made in the WWII history curriculum for schools.
“Our children know that the war was won by the Soviet Union that included also Soviet Armenia… This doesn’t mean that I want to play down the role of other members of the coalition – the United States, the Great Britain and France, not for the world, but these are our views,” he said.
The Soviet Armenia prepared six motor-rifle divisions and sent them to fight, and the 89th Tamanskaya Motor Rifle Divisions reached Berlin. Some 100,000 representatives of Armenian communities abroad fought within Resistance movement and in the allies’ armies. --0----
