YEREVAN, February 25. / ARKA /. Armenian prime minister Hovik Abrahamyan told a parliamentary Q&A session today that the new anti-corruption council set up on February 19 will make the fight against corruption transparent and open. He said the new anti-graft body will discuss all reported instances of corruption.
"We do not have any obligation towards businessmen or politicians ... And we will succeed if we work openly and transparent by combining our efforts,' said Abrahamyan.’
He said the authorities have all the necessary tools to fight corruption and called for a joint search of solutions through discussions that "will also ease social tension."
"It has been almost a year since I was appointed prime minister, and over this time span there was no grounded statement that I have a business or I am connected with business, as many claim,‘ said Abrahamyan.
He also recalled a latest report of the parliamentary oversight chamber claiming that corruption in government agencies reached 70%; however, the case was examined by prosecutors, who found no document of fact confirming the veracity of the claims.
"Allegations spread in society harm the image of our country, and this must end,’ said Abrahamyan. -- 0--
