Charity concert in support of Yazidi people to be held September 4 near Armenian parliament

A charity concert in support of the Yazidi people in northern Iraq will take place on September 4 at 20:00 local time in the park located next to the building of the National Assembly of Armenia. The charity event is organized by a public initiative "Help Yazidis" with the assistance of the National Assembly.

YEREVAN, September 3. ./ARKA/. A charity concert in support of the Yazidi people in northern Iraq will take place on September 4 at 20:00 local time in the park located next to the building of the National Assembly of Armenia. The charity event is organized by a public initiative "Help Yazidis" with the assistance of the National Assembly. 

The concert will feature  well-known singers and groups, in particular, Arto Tunchboyajyan, Artzruni Progressive music act, Aram mp3, Vostan Hayots, Bambir, Dorians, Empyray, The beautified project. The entrance is free.

The Yazidis came into the international spotlight last month, when tens of thousands fled to Sinjar Mountain range to escape ISIS militants. Hundreds and possibly thousands of others were reportedly killed by the jihadist militants for refusing to convert to Islam.

The National Union of Yazidis of Armenia and the World has repeatedly appealed to the international organizations and the international community demanding swift action to help their kin in Iraq.

Yazidis are a mostly Kurdish-speaking people that adhere to a religion rooted in Zoroastrianism  blended with elements of pre-Islamic Mesopotamian/Assyrian religious traditions, Mithraism, Christianity and Islam.

According to the 2013 census, Armenia has a 41,000-strong Yazidi community, the country’s largest ethnic and religious minority, who run a newspaper and a radio program on their language. 

The Armenian government has pledged $100,000 worth aid to Yazidis in northern Iraq. -0-
