“Constitutional Law Union” party calls for solidarity ahead of the Armenian genocide centennial

The party urges all Armenians to concentrate on their problems in the period from mid-February to the Lent (April 4) and the centennial date, and declare the time from April 4 to April 24 as a period of unification, to stop all civil discords and fuss and to give up hostile actions towards each other and breakaway sentiments, Babukhanyan said on the air on Sputnik-Armenia. 

The lawmaker also called to pray for innocent victims of the genocide and for the justice to be restored toward the Armenian nation.  

“I call on all parties, politicians, the authorities, the opposition, the church and other religious communities, public organizations, the press and the television of Armenia to turn this time span into a period of solidarity”, Babukhanyan said. 

According to the lawmaker, the world is going deep into conflict, splitting up into poles. “We have already suffered during a polarization and have been unable to bounce back after the World War I”, the deputy said. 

Under these circumstances, losing solidarity will mean losing everything, he said. 

The Armenian Genocide was the first genocide of the twentieth century.  According to Armenian and many other historians, up to 1.5 million Armenians were killed starting in 1915 in a systematic campaign by the government of Turkey. Turkey has been denying it for decades. 

The Armenian genocide was recognized by tens of countries. The first was Uruguay that did so in 1965. Other nations are Russia, France, Italy, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Poland, Lithuania, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Lebanon, Canada, Venezuela, Argentina, 42 U.S. states. 

It was recognized also by the Vatican, the European Parliament, the World Council of Churches and other international organizations. –0--
