A court in Yerevan has extended the arrest of Armen Ashotyan, deputy chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia, for another three months.

YEREVAN, October 12. /ARKA/. A court in Yerevan has extended the arrest of Armen Ashotyan, deputy chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia, for another three months.

The Anti-Corruption Court rejected the petition of Ashotyan's lawyer to replace the arrest with house arrest and a 40 million dram bail, the Public Televiison of Armenia reported.

The court agreed with the prosecution's arguments that the risk is high that Ashotyan might obstruct the investigation.

Ashotyan has been in custody since June 15 as part of criminal proceedings over alleged abuses committed at Yerevan State Medical University.

Ashotyan worked as an advisor to the rector of Yerevan State Medical University on a voluntary basis in 2005-2006 and in 2009-2016 he served as Minister of Education and Science. --0--
