YEREVAN, October 7. /ARKA/. Customs checkpoints at the border with Armenia will be pointing to the independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), after Armenia joins the Eurasian Union, head of political studies at Yerevan-based Caucasus Institute Sergey Minasyan told reporters on Tuesday.
“We should realize that since its accession to the UNO in March 1992 Armenia has been involved in all international processes as Armenia only, within the borders it had when joining the United Nations Organization”, the expert said.
Yet, in terms of economic, political and military cooperation Armenia and Karabakh are one territory and there are no limitations in between, Minasyan said.
“In trying to politicize the issue, we create problems in the reasoning for NKR’s independence”, the expert said.
According to the expert, Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Union is only one of the factors used by Minsk and Astana to obtain advantages in their relations with Russia.
“I do not believe national security or key foreign policy interests of Kazakhstan and Belarus are involved in this issue. If there are no force-majeures, on behalf of Minsk and Astana first of all, then the document about Armenia’s accession to the EEU will be signed on October 10”, Minasyan said. –0--
