YEREVAN, September 14. /ARKA/. Armenia’s newly - appointed prime minister Karen Karapetyan was told that he would keep his tenure until 2018 April when the second term of the incumbent president Serzh Sargsyan ends but in case the governing Republican Party of Armenia wins the next parliamentary elections slated for April 2, 2017, a local daily "Zhoghovurd" (People) says in its today’s issue.

"Therefore, Karen Karapetyan may head the Armenian government for a total of 19 months,’ according to the daily.

The newspaper also says that in any case after April 9, 2018 Karen Karapetyan will have to step down because under the new constitution that will take effect at that time, prime minister of the country, as well as MPs, should be citizens of Armenia and live at least the last four years in the country.

"It is obvious that after  April 9, 2018, Serzh Sargsyan would like to himself become prime minister", the daily claims.

In another related story another daily ‘Haykakan Zhamanak’ (Armenian Time) says that Karen Karapetyan is planning to get rid of some government members representing the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF).

"Representatives of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia emphasize that Karapetyan is endowed with a great deal of freedom to pick up members of his government and impose reforms", it says.

The daily, citing its sources in the ruling party, claims that one of the ARF ministers Karapetyan wants to get rid of is David Lokyan, the minister of territorial administration, considered an ally of former prime minister Hovik Abrahamyan. -0-
