YEREVAN, July 10. /ARKA/. Yerevan supports interaction between various integration unions, Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan said yesterday in his speech at the summit of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), the Eurasian Economic Union and Shanghai Cooperation Organization held in the city of Ufa.
This cooperation, based on indivisibility of security, will play a great role in forming a single area, with no division line, for the benefit of all countries, the Armenian president said.
No doubt, this can be done only on the basis of superiority of the international law, respect for UN charter and principles, uniform rules and unacceptability of violations, selective approach and one-sided sanctions, including blockade, Sargsyan said.
Armenia reaffirms its readiness for such a dialogue in the framework of various formats to exchange experience and seek ways of harmonious, mutually reinforcing and mutually advantageous integration development processes, the head of the state said.
This is the approach taken as a basis for Yerevan’s intention to systematize its relations with Shanghai Cooperation Organizations and the application for an observer’s status made back in May 2012, Sargsyan said.
It is important to succeed in creating an efficient tool for cooperation both at international level and in terms of personal contacts, public diplomacy and business communities, Armenia’s president said.
Sargsyan thanked Russia’s president Vladimir Putin for the forum and for warm reception. He also welcomed the format of the meetings between BRICS, EEU and Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
According to Armenia’s leader, potentials of various integration unions should be correlated and joint projects should be implemented getting the respective financial development institutions involved, which will help increase investment flows into developing nations and, hence, lead to sustainable development.
Connecting the Eurasian integration with the initiative of Silk Road Economic Belt could serve as an example and will lead, in long term, to a new level of implementation of major infrastructure and transport projects, Sargsyan said.
In the case of Armenia, construction of Armenia-Iran railroad may be such a project, providing a way to Indian Ocean for EEU countries through Persian Gulf.
“There is a technical feasibility study prepared, and the project is open for government-private sector partnership. We hope that companies participating in this summit will show interest in the project,” Sargsyan said.
Armenia’s president expressed hopes ‘nuclear’ talks with Iran will be a success and will facilitate strengthening of the international and regional security, as well as will open up new opportunities for economic cooperation.
“Being a friendly neighboring country to Iran, Armenia truly wants it,” Sargsyan said.
Armenia’s president also stressed the importance of consolidated efforts to prevent conflicts, to resolve the existing problems only by peaceful means taking into account interests of all sides and to develop effective collective tools to meet those challenges. –0--
