Dialogue the only way for Armenians and Azerbaijanis to overcome differences, Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman says
YEREVAN, December 10. /ARКА/. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova outlined the only possible way for the peoples of Armenia and Azerbaijan to overcome their  differences, and also listed possible ways to combine the interests of the parties.

Speaking at a press briefing Zakharova recalled the historically positive experience of the joint co-existence of the Armenian and Azerbaijani peoples both in Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Now, according to her, thanks to the mediating efforts of Russia, the bloodshed has been stopped, an agreement has been reached on the return of refugees and internally displaced persons, the unblocking of transport and economic ties in the region, and also a Humanitarian Response Center has been created to assist Armenia and Azerbaijan in restoring civil infrastructure and building conditions for normal life of the population.

"Thus, real preconditions are being created for establishing a dialogue between the peoples. And this dialogue is the only possible way for them to overcome their differences," she said.

She noted that with all the heterogeneity of the region and all the deep contradictions between the neighbors, it is necessary to look for ways to combine the interests of the parties.

“In our opinion, we should rely on the implementation of various mutually beneficial options for the synergy of trade, transport and energy opportunities of the region. And, of course, there is no doubt that the agenda should be to build up and tighten contacts between businessmen, scientists, and representatives of civil society. One of the possible options of interaction is mutual trips of journalists. By the way, the experience of recent years is also available. I think this is the right step towards sustainable peace between the peoples of Armenia and Azerbaijan," Zakharova said.

She stressed that political will of leaders is necessary for all this to happen.

From September 27 to November 9,  Azerbaijani armed forces, backed by Turkey and foreign mercenaries and terrorists, attacked Nagorno-Karabakh along the entire  front line using rocket and artillery weapons, heavy armored vehicles, military aircraft and prohibited types of weapons such as cluster bombs and  phosphorus weapons.

On November 9, the leaders of the Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities in Artsakh. According to the document, the parties stopped at where they were at that time. The town of Shushi, the districts of Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin are handed over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of a 5-kilometer corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia.

A Russian peacekeeping contingent has been deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. Internally displaced persons and refugees are returning to Karabakh and adjacent regions, prisoners of war, hostages and other detained persons and bodies of the dead are being exchanged.--0-
