ECHR rejects Armenia’s demand for a new interim measure against Azerbaijan concerning two Armenian servicemen

YEREVAN, June 23. /ARKA/. The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has rejected Armenia's request for a new interim measure against Azerbaijan concerning two Armenian servicemen, the office of Armenia's representative on international legal issues said.
According to Armenian Defense Ministry, the soldiers were ambushed and kidnapped by Azerbaijani troops who crossed into Armenian territory in late May.
The Armenian soldiers- Harutyun Hovakimyan and Karen Ghazaryan- were captured after delivering water and food to Armenian army units guarding the border with Azerbaijan. In Azerbaijan, they were charged with a string of crimes, including “terrorism.”
On May 28, the office of Armenia's representative on international legal issues filed a request with the ECHR to apply interim measure against Azerbaijan over its illegal kidnapping of two Armenian soldiers. The Armenian side demanded that Azerbaijan refrain from violating the rights of the Armenian soldiers, provide information about the places and conditions of their detention and their state of health.
"At the same time, the ECHR noted in its ruling that the decision to apply interim measures (against Azerbaijan), delivered on September 29, 2020 and expanded on November 3 of the same year, remains in force. Therefore, Azerbaijan should protect the rights of Hovakimyan and Ghazaryan among others," the Armenian representative's office said in a statement. -0-
