EU observers deny Armenian Defense Ministry's report on shelling of their transport by Azerbaijanis
YEREVAN, August 15. /ARKA/. The EU Mission in Armenia (EUMA) observers denied today the Armenian Defense Ministry's report on the shelling of their transport by the Azerbaijani armed forces.
"No EUMA patrol has been the target of shooting. We patrol alongside the border areas of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and report to Brussels on military developments, including shooting incidents in our area of responsibility," the EUMA said in a tweet.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Armenian Defense Ministry reported that units of the Azerbaijani armed forces opened fire from small arms in the direction of the EU observers and their vehicle patrolling outside the village of Verin Shorzha in Gegharkunik province. According to the report, the incident occurred on August 15 at bout 12:20 p.m.
The EU Mission in Armenia was deployed on February 20, 2023 on the Armenian side of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
It is tasked with observing and reporting on the situation on the ground; contributing to human security in conflict-affected areas and based on the above, contributing to build confidence between populations of both Armenia and Azerbaijan and, where possible, their authorities.
The Mission has a two-year mandate and involves up to 100 staff, including EU experts and monitors. -0-
