YEREVAN, April 28. /ARKA/. The international survey ‘Sputnik.Opinions’ conducted by Sputnik multimedia agency jointly with ICM Research shows that 19 to 24 percent of European countries’ residents can’t point out what country played the key part in liberation of Europe in the World War II.

Respondents could choose among following answers: the Soviet Army, the United States Army, the British Army, other countries’ armies and ‘I don’t know’, Novosti-Armenia reports.

Only 13% of the surveyed Europeans pointed out the Soviet Army. The majority of people thinking so were in Germany – 17% and the minority in France – only 8%. In the Great Britain, 46% are convinced that Europe was liberated mainly by British Army’s efforts, and 61% in France and 52% in Germany pointed out the U.S. Army.

The public opinion poll was conducted over a period from March 20 to April 9 in the Great Britain, France and Germany – 1,000 people were surveyed in each of these countries.

The survey was conducted as part of ‘Sputnik-Opinions’ project, under which public opinion surveys are regularly conducted in European countries and the United States.
