YEREVAN, December 5. /ARKA/. The director of the Yerevan-based Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandaryan said today that in terms of creating strong guarantees of security Armenia has no alternative to cooperation with Russia.
On November 30 Russian Defense Minister General Sergey Shoigu and his Armenian counterpart Vigen Sargsyan signed an agreement for creating the United Group of Troops. The group "is supposed to provide an adequate response to any armed attack as well as to other challenges and security threats to the parties."
According to Iskandaryan, this format has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantages include the sale of Russian weapons to Armenia on favorable terms and political forms of security. The disadvantage is that it does not work perfectly, - said Iskandaryan.
The United Group of Troops would comprise the 102nd Russian military base deployed in Armenia and Armenian army units. -0-
