YEREVAN, March 1. /ARKA/. Head of the European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy (EAFJD) Kaspar Karampetian urged European Union to take concrete action following a resolution adopted by the European Parliament that calls for sanctions against Azerbaijan and its leader.

"EAFJD will continue the daily work with elected EU representatives and will continue to hold the EU executive accountable for its policies. We need tangible steps from the EU and European Parliament's resolutions are the basis for advancing these steps," Karampetian said.

He pointed out that the European Parliament honors its role as the "house of democracy" by taking a clear and objective stance on Azerbaijan's destructive policies towards both Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia.

"Nevertheless, we should be aware that, unfortunately, the EU leadership has pursued and continues to pursue a different policy, among other things praising Azerbaijan's oil dictator as a 'reliable partner'." At the end of the day, reality is shaped by what the leadership does," Karampetian said.

The European Parliament adopted earlier this week two resolutions based on reports on EU foreign, security and defense policies, calling on the European Commission to impose sanctions on Azerbaijan and to strengthen the mandate of the EU mission in Armenia. -0-
